Turning 65

Since turning age 65 is considered a Qualifying Event, if you or your spouse is approaching a 65th birthday, you are eligible to enroll in HOP.

Participants age 65 and older are Medicare-eligible and can choose from among these options:

  1. The HOP Medical Plan
  2. A Basic or Enhanced Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Option (either with the HOP Medical Plan or on a standalone basis)
  3. The HOP Managed Care Plan/Highmark FreedomBlue

Look under HOP Coverage and Premiums for coverage in your county.

If You Are About to Turn Age 65, Join Now!

In the six months before your 65th birthday, you will automatically be invited to a meeting where HOP representatives will explain the options available to you and provide you with a personalized statement showing you information about what you need to do if you want to enroll or change your option. If your invitation doesn’t arrive on time, be sure to call 1-800-PSERS25 (1-800-773-7725).

Keep in mind that if you are turning age 65 and join HOP, you can also enroll your spouse, regardless of his or her age.

Take this opportunity to enroll today. If you don’t enroll now, you will have to wait until you experience another Qualifying Event to join.
